Blue-GIFT Steering Group Meeting at PLOCAN

Representatives of the European Atlantic Arc test sites: PLOCAN, WavEc, BiMEP, EMEC and BlueWise Marine, visited the prototypes supported by the Blue-GIFT (Blue Growth and Innovation Fast Tracked) project of EnerOcean, Tension Technology International and X1 Wind, at the Astican shipyard and the Reina Sofia dock in the port of Las Palmas, on the occasion of the second general meeting of the project in 2022 in Gran Canaria.

Access to the test site is possible thanks to the Blue-GIFT project, which counts on a total of 2.5 million euros and is 75% financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), within the framework of the Interreg Atlantic Area programme.

Blue-GIFT helps companies in the Atlantic Arc to test the next generation of marine renewable energy (MRE) technology in real marine environments and to demonstrate that energy can be generated economically from the ocean.

EnerOcean, Tension Technology International and X1 Wind’s prototypes are ready for installation on the PLOCAN test site, where they will be able to validate that floating wind is a viable alternative for offshore power generation.  In addition to these, Wavepiston and RW Power’s wave energy prototypes are supported by the project for demonstration on the PLOCAN test site.

At their meeting, the Blue-GIFT project partners (PLOCAN, WavEc, BiMEP, EMEC, BlueWise Marine, EC Nantes and SEENEOH) reviewed the status of the project activities in order to tackle the final stretch of the set objectives.
