PLOCAN participates in FIMAR 2019

PLOCAN participated in the 9th edition of FIMAR, which took place in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and was visited by more than 40.000 people, with the Educational Marine Robotics initiative EDUROVs. This initiative, funded by the Cabildo (Island Government) of Gran Canaria and the ‘La Caixa’ Foundation, proposes the construction of ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles).

The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands participated in the International Fair of the Sea, promoted by the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council, the Cabildo (Island Government) of Gran Canaria and the Las Palmas Port Authority, with the Educational Marine Robotics initiative EDUROVs that proposes the construction of ROVs in several areas for educational purposes, from low cost tools. The objective of this initiative is to develop a science and technology dissemination proccess which is able to reach more people and to incorporate more elements and technological tools appropriate to the different levels of education. Furthermore, it proposes the promotion of scientific vocation among children and young people.

During the three days, Marine Robotics demonstrations and workshops were organised for children and young people of the Scout Group Doramas. Moreover, a swimming-pool with ROVs in operation was available for all the visitors during the three days.

This activity also forms part of the project CODIMAR – Communication and Dissemination of Activities in the Marine-Maritime Sector as part of its support for disseminating events and projects, with the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECyT), the Cabildo (Island Government) of Gran Canaria and the La Caixa Foundation.
