PLOCAN participates in the launch meeting for the OCEANLIT Project for managing coastal areas affected by marine litter

The Canary Island partners of the European project “Management of protected coastal areas in archipelagos affected by marine litter” (OCEANLIT) have held an online meeting, in which PLOCAN participated, to present the project.

OCEANLIT aims to reduce marine litter by building knowledge, improving waste management systems, and raising awareness among users and the general public. It will promote the conservation and recovery of coastal and marine protected areas in ocean archipelagos.

The Canary Islands are represented on the project by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria (project coordinator), the Department for Climate Change of the Canary Islands Government, the Marine Science Technology Centre, the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands, Puertos Canarios and the Spanish Ornithological Society.

The project is 85% co-financed by EU ERDF funds through the second call for the INTERREG VA Spain-Portugal MAC 2014-2020 Territorial Cooperation Programme.
