Presentation of The Blue Growth pilot project in Praia, Cape Verde

The Blue Growth pilot project executed by PLOCAN within the framework of the RIS3_Net project was presented in Praia, Cape Verde, during the training workshops on Smart Specialisation Strategies (RIS3). The workshops took place on 20-21 March in the facilities of the Núcleo Operacional da Sociedade de Informação (NOSi), which participates in the project as a third country partner. Cape Verdean institutions related to the management of R&D&I policies and representatives of the project partners participated in these training workshops.

PLOCAN is responsable for the design and execution of the Blue Growth pilot project and it coordinates the pilot projects on tourism and agro-industry developed by the partners from Madeira and the Canary Islands. The objective of the Blue Growth pilot project is to characterise and promote the Macaronesian R&D&I related to the European Commission’s Blue Growth Strategy. The organisation of workshops with the Macaronesian research community in order to identify and analyse the barriers faced in developing the R&D&I projects in the marine-maritime field and the opportunities offered by the inter-regional co-operation between Madeira, Azores and the Canary Islands are some of the actions included in this initiative.

Co-ordinated by the Canary Island Research, Innovation and Information Society Agency, belonging to the Canary Island government, the RIS3_Net Project is co-funded to the tune of 85% by European Regional Development funds through the first call for projects for the Interreg MAC 2014-2020 programme and its final purpose is to create a Trans-Reginal Platform for the smart specialisation of the MAC space that brings together the resources, actions and tools available, by driving a socio-economic promotion of R&D&I.
