PLOCAN’s Educational Marine Robotics Workshop at the Encuentro del Atlántico 2022 in Santa Cruz de La Palma

The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) participated in the Encuentro del Atlántico 2022 in Santa Cruz de La Palma by giving an educational marine robotics workshop aimed at young people in order to raise awareness of the importance of the sea in all facets of life.

The Encuentro del Atlántico was organized by the public company Sodepal with funding from the Department of Economic Promotion of the Cabildo of La Palma.  Through this fun and educational activity PLOCAN aims to teach and raise awareness of the importance of the circular economy as a basis for sustainable development and to create scientific vocations at an early age.

In the workshop, the participants made a boat from templates using reused material. Once the watertightness and buoyancy of the boats had been checked, the electronics were installed allowing them to be operated via Wi-Fi by means of a mobile device in the pools installed for this purpose.
