The contract for the construction of the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands was signed on the 19th of July, by the Director of the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Society of Information (ACIISI) of the Canary Islands Government, Mr. Juan Ruiz Alzola, as Chairman of Strategic Council of the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN), and Mr. Pedro Gallardo Juberías the Sole Manager of the U.T.E. (Temporary Joint Venture), comprising Acciona Infraestructuras, S.A. and Lopesan Asfaltos y Construcciones, S.A. (UTE Plataforma Marítima).

Mr José Doncel Morales and Mr Octavio Llinás, Deputy General Director of Scientific and Technologic Infrastructure Planning from MINECO (Ministry of Economy & Competitiveness) and Director of PLOCAN, respectively, intervened at the contract signing ceremony. The chancellor of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Mr Jose Regidor García and Mr Bonifacio Díaz Chico, CEO of the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands attended the event, among other members of the PLOCAN Strategic Council.

The UTE Plataforma Marítima was awarded the tender for the construction of the Oceanic Platform to be located at 2.7 nautical miles east of the coast of Telde, on the island of Gran Canaria. Considering the complexity of the project and due to the financial, technological, scientific, functional and administrative implications, the tender was carried out with the competitive dialogue system. The investment of 10,4 million is planned for the construction of the platform.
