The European Maritime Day 2012 took place in Gothemburg (Sweden) on the 21st and 22nd of May 2012 (http://www.emd2012.se/), focusing this year into “sustainable growth from oceans, seas and coasts: blue growth”.
A representative of PLOCAN - Marimar Villagarcía- participated in this conference, and gave an oral presentation related to the MaReS project on the 22nd of May –stakeholders day-. She was invited as a speaker during the session entitled “Marine and maritime innovation in the outermost regions: blue growth and smart specialisation”, organised by the Conference of Presidents of the Outermost Regions (ORs).
During the presentation the actions developed among the Macaronesian regions within the MaReS project were shown, explaining the main objectives and activities carried out until nowadays, such as students training, Atlantic Strategy Forum, etc. A review was made of the remaining steps to finish up the project, analyzing those areas within blue growth where Canaries could innovate, with the aim to encourage specialized employment for the future (technology associated to renewable energies, undergoing FP7 projects, …). The workshop provided the occasion to exchange information with the other speakers and the rest of the public who attended it, giving incentives to future joint initiatives with the ORs.
