On Monday May 21st, 2012 the third meeting of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (COCI) of the Canary Islands Oceanic Platform (PLOCAN) was held in Madrid at the
Canary Islands Government Office.
COCI is a body composed by recognized international prestige members who advise the Consortium on its scientific and technical activities.
The Silbo’s stopover consolidates PLOCAN as reference harbour for underwater gliders in Europe.
The underwater glider Silbo plans to complete tomorrow the first major leg of the international ocean mission Challenger One, after sailing an approximate distance of aprox. 2,870 nautical miles from Iceland to the Canary Islands for scientific and technological research purposes.
On May 17, 2012, was put it back into operation off Mogan coast, Gran Canaria, the WaveGlider "Hermes". It’s an unmanned autonomous vehicle intended for ocean observing that the company Liquid Robotics, Inc. (LRI) markets and in Spain is carried out through its national sales representative, EMS. The different tasks of setup, commissioning and deployment of Hermes have been conducted by a technical team comprising members of LRI, EMS and the Canary Islands Oceanic Platform –PLOCAN-.
From 23th to 25th May it will be open the exposure “The Ocean and the quemistry of the life” in El Hierro island, in the exposure room of Valverde town.
